Amanda Wheeler knows a thing or two about teenagers having managed the Foundation for Youth Development’s (FYD) Henderson-based Waitakere arm for several years.
The 35-year-old Programme Director works with over 420 West Auckland teens annually and this dedication has been recognised in the 2010 Westpac Waitakere Business Awards. Amanda has been named a finalist in the Award’s Ritchies Transport Young Business Person of the Year Award category for her work with FYD Waitakere, and the trust itself is also a finalist in the Unitec Community & Volunteer Sector Best Practice Award section.
“Kids and teenagers are AWESOME, but they can get a hard time and are under a lot of pressure to be successful,” she says.
