Opotiki Kiwi Can Charitable Trust
Kiwi Canners learn about the value of money!
Recently Opotiki Kiwi Canners put their entrepreneurial skills to the test at a Kiwi Can Kids Market in Opotiki.
Students from the four Opotiki Kiwi Can schools; Ashbrook School, Opotiki School, Omarumutu School and Woodlands School, were invited to sell their old toys, books, clothing and baking to help save money for Christmas presents and their end of year school camp.
The kids market gave the students an opportunity to learn some valuable skills about money, working, recycling and having the confidence to deal with the public.
It was encouraging to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they were rewarded with a sale, after sealing a deal and working hard.
Opotiki Kiwi Can would like to thank all the parents and teachers for their support and especially keen supporter Bob Wickham, who let the students use his building in town.
Big day for Ashbrook Primary School!
Ashbrook Primary School recently held a promotions day, recognising the importance of programmes like Kiwi Can operating in the school.
During their weekly Kiwi Can session, Year 7 and 8 students hand-wrote and decorated individual invitations and personally delivered them to neighbours and parents of the school.
On the promotions day, classes each made presentations to the school, including an eco-friendly fashion parade with garments made from recyclable materials and the re-telling of "The Hungry Caterpillar" story.
The day was a fun and exciting experience with some great learning involved.
