Wellington Kiwi Can
Students' smiles say it all
Wellington Kiwi Canners from St Claudine Thevenet School were out in force earlier this month sharing their positive attitudes with local residents as part of their community project, 'Smile Week'. Students each decorated smiley best wishes cards and delivered them with Kiwi Can Leaders and teachers to letterboxes in the local neighborhood.
The school received a number of phone calls from happy residents saying how much they had enjoyed receiving the smiley cards which had brightened up their day.
Testimonials:
"Trentham School began the Kiwi Can programme as a newly merged school at the beginning of 2005 following the Government's Upper Hutt Network Review. The long term aim was to assist staff and complement other initiatives to develop the culture of the new school, both in terms of behaviour and learning. Visitors to the school speak positively about both of these things and of the friendly children. According to anecdotal evidence our aim is being achieved. Negative behaviour incidents decreased from the second half of last year and achievement levels are gradually rising. Children and teachers are enthusiastic about attending their weekly Kiwi Can session and this is reflected formally in weekly written comments and informally in various discussions."
