Kiwi Kiwi Kiwi Can Can Can!!!
FYD Waikato launched the Kiwi Can programme in the region in January 2010 and it has been going from strength to strength.
Children at Crawshaw School and Forest Lake School in Hamilton, as well as Strathmore School and more recently, David Henry School, in Tokoroa, have embraced the Kiwi Can programme and the leaders. Never wanting to miss their weekly Kiwi Can lesson, children eagerly line up at the door to learn about values and life skills in a fun and energetic way.
The programme enhances the values already taught at the school and some of the teacher comments so far include: “Great, positive sessions. Children are learning values and more importantly, are practising them outside the classroom.”
“Love the way you reflect on last week’s lesson. The show of hands is a great indicator of key messages remembered.”
“The students in my room really look forward to Kiwi Can and constantly watch the clock leading up to their lesson. It’s great to see them taking the messages on board and demonstrating respect.”
Foundation for Youth Development Waikato is thrilled to have such dedicated Kiwi Can Leaders Jimi and Tash in Tokoroa and Rosie and Ezra in Hamilton. These people are critical to the success of the programme and we love the enthusiasm and passion they bring to the role!
