We start our next Project K programme in 2013 and we need mentors.
Are you a great listener and communicator with loads of common sense plus a sense of fun? If you are, we would love to hear from you. Being a Project K Mentor is a wonderfully rewarding and supported 12 month journey with a student as they work towards achieving their own goals.

In Term 3 2012, we have three Project K programmes running, two at Flaxmere College and one at Central Hawke's Bay College (CHBC) Our 2011 CHBC programme is due to graduate at Orua Wharo on September 7th and out 2011 Flaxmere College programmes will graduate on November 23rd. In May, four Project K students from Hawke's Bay has the life-changing opportunity to be part of JumpStart, when the students got to complete a tandem skydive from the back of a Hercules plane.
These four students – Kiana from CHBC; Michelle, Helena and Detroit from Flaxmere College were selected due to their commitment to Project K as well as their positive attitudes. Three of these students, it was their first time flying in a plane - to then jump out of it, is just incredible. Our 2012 Flaxmere College group braved the winter elements when they compoleted their three week Wilderness Adventure on July 6th. They experienced snow – some for the first time in their lives! They have proved to be a resilient group who have bonded well. We look forward to seeing them continue this journey during their Community Challenge in August/September and through their mentoring year.

FYD's Kiwi Can primary school programme launched in the Flaxmere region of Hawke's Bay at the start of this year.
Currently being delivered in Flaxmere School and Irongate School, the programme is reaching over 700 children each week. This term, students are learning about Integrity; later on in Term four, they will be learning about Resilience. Our Kiwi Can Leaders are Maria Apera-Jones & Porky Mareikura.

More than $17,000 raised for FYD Hawkes Bay at Craggy Range Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) Hawke’s Bay Regional Manager Nic Goodman is thrilled with the money raised from the Project K fundraiser. Over $17,000 was raised to support our kids and youth in FYD programmes in the Hawkes Bay region. “We are delighted with what we have managed to raise, especially in these economic times, we are so thankful for the people of Hawke’s Bay who gave so generously and to Craggy Range who have sponsored this event since 2006” Nic Goodman said. Ninety people turned out to enjoy fine food and wine and support FYD in growing a nation of great Kiwi kids. The event was held at the magical Terroir restaurant at Craggy Range, and guests were entertained by singer/songwriter, TV producer and breast cancer survivor Hinewehi Mohi. Guests heard from Havelock North Project K student Caleb Kabir who shared with the audience how the support from FYD has turned his life around. “I have achieved so many goals in the past 12 months and am immensely grateful to the many people who have helped me along the way” says Caleb. More than 20 items were generously donated from Hastings, Havelock North and Napier businesses. Under the hammer some of the big ticket items sold for over $2,000; this included a magical dining experience for 8 served in the underground cellar at Craggy Range that went for nearly $3,000. The ASB Tennis Classic Evening with hospitality box for 6 plus accommodation in an Executive two bedroom suite at Heritage City Life went for $2,200; this includes a behind the scenes tour at the tennis. The Cliff and Sea Day of Adventure lets ten people experience first hand what Hawke’s Bays students experience, including abseiling on Te Mata Peak and learning to surf in a double kayak. This prize went under the hammer for $2,100. Other notable items auctioned off were 2 David Trubridge light shades, a Black Barn Vineyards summer concert series ticket package, a Pilot Boat ride for 4 people, a $1,000 beauty package from Andrea’s Hair and Beauty, a signed and framed Central Districts Cricket Shirt worn by Ross Taylor Captain of the NZ Black Caps.
