The Adventure Camp

The camp this year was very successful with the Deputy Principal of ASHAH also in attendance, commenting on how the camp was a fantastic opportunity for teachers to bond with students’ in a more relaxed setting. As usual the students’ thoroughly enjoyed themselves, despite it still been early days in the programme and many started great friendships that have developed over the year.

Community Project

For ASDAH’s community project this year 5 groups of students’ headed down to the local creek and Rugby League club to pick up rubbish. The students were amazed at the amount and different kinds of rubbish people carelessly discard in public places and many commented that it’s easy to put rubbish in a bin. One student went the extra mile and lay down on the ground beside the creek determined to get every last bit of rubbish out. The project was a great learning experience for the group and installed good habits for disposing of rubbish correctly.

Community Adventure

This year’s community adventure was a tour around Auckland and a chance for students to learn how to use the public transport system. As usual Devonport was the main port of call as students got to travel by bus, train and ferry to get there and they also had a chance to visit some beautiful sites such as Mt Victoria.

Careers Expo

The career expo was an opportunity for the whole group of year 9’s to explore the many and varied options for tertiary study and careers. Many students initially were unsure how to approach the day being as it was their first year at high school but with the right advice and guidance from Stars leaders they gathered information on any jobs or universities necessary to help them make an informed decision as time goes on. The expo proved to be very informative and was a great kick start for the students towards their future.

Our weekly sessions

The weekly sessions have gone extremely well this year with the assistance of some excellent and experienced leaders and lead peer mentors. As usual, the year 9 students were an interesting and mixed bunch of people and it has been wonderful to see their confidence and self-esteem develop over the past year. The graduation was a huge success due to Miss Tuoro, the group leaders and staff that assisted her and their support was fantastic.

A message from Stars Programme Coordinator Julie Rewha

I would like to thank the school management and office staff for their continued support and never ending help with the various components of the Stars programme and its requirements. I may co-ordinate this fantastic programme and have the most fabulous leader showing me the way in Miss Tuoro, but we both appreciate the support from management, admin and staff at the Auckland 7th Day Adventist High School.
