Stars - a Community Adventure!
On a beautiful September day, the Stars students from Putaruru College participated in a Community Adventure to gain an appreciation of some of the wonders in the South Waikato region. Having a strong focus on environmental initiatives, the Community Adventure focused on the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust (MEIT) and the Waikato River Trails.
Students worked in groups led by their Peer Mentors and completed a photographic challenge organised by Stars Coordinator, Jocelyn van der Heyden. The kaka put on a fantastic display for the students that visited Maungatautari in the morning. Gemma Green and volunteers from MEIT shared their passion for the project which now sees the mountain completely fenced and predator-free. The "dawn chorus" is returning!
