Kiwi Can Leaders have been trialling a new initiative to combat graffiti in the community with two participating Kiwi Can schools, Te Kura o Matapihi and Arataki Primary. The schools' chose a local wall, or in the case of Matapihi the local bridge was selected, painted it to remove existing tagging and then applied a custom made stencil. Where previously the locations had been tagged nightly, after several weeks there is virtually no tagging.

FYD Bay of Plenty's 2009/10 Project K group from Otumoetai College graduated in September with four of the students achieving Merit and Grace Dalzell (pictured below in blue dress) receiving a national Project K Student Excellence Award at Government House in October.
All the students succeeded in many ways including achieving their school, health & fitness and personal goals, finding part-time work and moving into polytech courses to follow their chosen careers. For the mentors and team at FYD Bay of Plenty, it has been an absolute privilege to share their journey and celebrate real ‘wins’ with individuals, and we continue to do so even after the programme has finished. The journey is underway with the 2010 students who are already seeing great positive outcomes and we'll feature some of these in early 2011.
Congratulations to Project K student Grace Kaiawe who this year overcame two pf her biggest fears - heights and public speaking!!
